22 nd June, 1992, West Bengal Commission for Women act was introduced to the West Bengal Assembly and it was passes unanimously. The commission had its first meeting on 3rd February, 1993.

On 22/01/10 at the behest of the Commission, the Department of Social Welfare, Govt. of West Bengal decided to give support for the rehabilitation of Rebati Majhi.
